HA1 Task 3 - Graphic Types

PIXEL ART
Pixel art is a technique that used to be really popular in the past this is because pixel art is made up of pixels by using rector graphics which is easy,cheap and isn't to advanced to use. Creating the image in pixels creates art which is made up of blocks but this technique was popular in games by 1982. However some modern games or even old games which use the pixel art are still quite popular for example Mario, donkey Kong and sonic the hedgehog are all well known video games which are/used to be created using pixel art.

CONCEPT ART
Concept art is basically preparing the work before the final production, this help generate a visual design for a character, item or area for something that hasn't been created yet. . For example concept art is drawing or planning a game/video character, background etc before creating the final production. Concept art is used to basically draw your ideas so you are able to change them and have a image of the character before you either disguise the character with other people for opinions/Changes or then create the character using the concept art you created.

TEXTURE ART
Texture art is painting clothes, items, backgrounds, buildings and so much more it involves having to use different textures such as fur, wrinkles, spots, sweat and mud. This is done in several software such as Photo shop. Once happy with the texture of a piece of clothing etc they then start to 'paint' it on a model which doesn't have any clothing. As you can see in the image to the right there is two different characters, Both of them have two images with the clothing finished and the other without any clothing. This is because in texture art you have to create a 'model' to know what sort of texture you need for example for the man in the robe he has several layers of clothing so he will need a variety of textures within his clothes.

BACKGROUND GRAPHICS

Background graphics is creating graphics for the background. The background is the area the game is based or where the character is. For example if the character is in London then the background might have graphics of big Ben, Red large buses or anything which will make it obvious where the game is based. If the location of the background isn't real and is just be created then the background graphics will still be important. Background graphics can be created on different software's such as photo shop but can also be designed as a concept art first. This will help plan where the character will be and what objects/Background items you might need for example a lamppost, characters within the background, phone box and so much more.  
For instance the image to the right is a image. It is obvious the game is based in a Forrest area not just because of the trees, grass, rocks and the mountains in the background etc but because of the shadowing and the texture in the background, the textures, colour and shapes of the background will overall create the right setting and atmosphere for a particular area/location.

PRINT MEDIA ART
Print art is posters, game packaging so for example the game case. Its really important that print art is colourful, eye catching and explain/relate to the game. For example the game case on the right is a image of the game case for grand theft auto 5. There is a lot of colour but the characters and the title is the most eye catching feature. The character has a bat and a aggressive dog this shows that the game is going to be violent. On top of the characters is the title of the game which is big and bold, this makes it easier to instantly see what the game is called. Usually on the game case it shows what platform the game is for, the logo and the age limit for the game. the characters of the game isn't in game play e.g shown fighting. This is because a bigger image of one character other than a image of the background will help the game stand out more this is why most game cases images are concept art or a still image.
